It’s our mission to get you building forms fast, so you can get on with business and become the powerhouse you need to be.
That said, there are a few things we need to pay attention to with forms, and that’s GDPR Compliance.
GDPR states that we must gain “consent” to process and handle the users’ data (for EU citizens, including the UK), for things like marketing purposes or if we’re asking for additional non-essential data.
This is typically done in the form of a checkbox, and that checkbox must remain “unticked” and must be ticked by the user to grant permission to use their data.
GDPR is strict when it comes to consent: users must actively check a box indicating their agreement. That’s where our Consent Field comes in to save the day. It ensures that you’re capturing opt-in consent the right way, via a simple checkbox:
The Consent Field
is a special field that includes just one checkbox, with supporting text. You can use this to link to your Privacy Policy and explain why you’re asking for consent to capture and process their data.
To add the Consent Field, either create a free account and create a new form. From there, drag and drop the field exactly where you need it:
There’s nothing more you need to do but personalize the label and supporting text. By default the Consent Field
is a required field (read more on Smart Validation) and will only allow the form to proceed when the checkbox is ticked by the user.
To ensure you comply with GDPR, the checkbox is defaulted to unticked and cannot be changed.
Remember though: you don’t need to use the Consent Field
if:
- Your customers are NOT in the EU or UK
- You’re not asking for non-essential information, i.e. the form asks for the minimal amount of information to perform the role it servers
- Only use the Consent Field when asking for permission for things like marketing, and non-essential (additional) information that the user agrees to
And that’s a wrap. GDPR doesn’t need to feel daunting with the right measures in place, it can be easily adhered to when following the right principles. While you’re here I’d encourage you to check out our full GDPR Compliant Forms Guide to ensure your understanding.
